Christian Birmingham graduated in illustration from Exeter College of Art and Design in 1991. He won his first contract almost immediately on leaving college for a book that has now sold in excess of two million copies - 'The Night Before Christmas'. Subsequently he was shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler and Kate Greenaway illustration awards and won both the Smarties Prize and Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year Award with the Children’s Laureate author Michael Morpurgo. He has since worked with the leading UK and international publishers.

The immediacy of chalk and pencil suits his style and offers wonderful luminosity to his works. He is busy with his next publication, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.

Books illustrated include: A Christmas Carol, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Little Farmer Joe, Oliver Twist, Sleeping Beauty, The Night Before Christmas, Wenceslas and The Snow Queen. Christian had a successful exhibition of the 'Snow Queen' at the Air Gallery, London - December 2007 and 'The Little Mermaid' at the Mall Galleries - 2009.
