Eleanor Bartleman
Eleanor Bartleman was raised in Ayrshire, Scotland and studied ceramics at Glasgow School of Art. She has been a maker of ceramics ever since, developing her distinctive style and imagery, which is figurative and has a strong narrative running through it. Her work is informed by myth, legend and fable – and its sources are in human spirit, character and relationship. She has recently been combining the beast epic imagery inspired by Reynard the Fox with ideas gleaned from renaissance paintings and medieval manuscripts. The individual pieces are hand-modelled from porcelain and decorated with slips and stains. Fired to 1260°C, they are then finished with lustres and precious metals. Each work is unique and has its own jewel-like quality.
